To support the local economy, I buy blue!
IJust a few weeks ago, the threat seemed distant. The main concern with the coronavirus crippling Asia was with companies here doing business in China.
Soon, however, the crisis turned into a pandemic affecting the entire planet. And Quebec is not spared, all regions are affected by COVID-19.
In addition to the health crisis we are fighting, our economy is under attack like never before. The government has announced the closure until April 13 of all businesses and non-essential businesses. In the words of Premier Legault, Quebec is on hiatus. The effects of COVID-19 on our economy are catastrophic.
Several SMEs, several merchants from all over Quebec, no longer have any source of income, no more cash flow. Almost a million people registered for EI in just one week!
To support our economy, the Prime Minister encouraged people to buy local products and shop online. The Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Quebec (FCCQ) has decided to respond to this call by launching the Jachète bleu campaign, to support the economy here and encourage Quebec businesses online.
The objective is to share on social media and on the jachetebleu.ca page examples of businesses that offer their services online, in order to help consumers who wish to support the local economy and offer them a Quebec alternative. Many Quebecers already shop online on a regular basis. The current crisis must be an opportunity to make an extra effort to find a Quebec supplier and encourage our local businesses. This initiative also seeks to outsmart the search engines which do not always reference local businesses in the foreground.
Quebec SMEs are present online and deserve to be better known. Consumers will make great product discoveries from here while helping Quebec retailers get through this difficult period.
Our local shops are the strength of our neighborhoods and regions. These SMEs employ workers and contribute to the economy of our towns and villages. Most of the companies affected by the crisis face a serious lack of liquidity. Each purchase you make online from a Quebec supplier will therefore have a direct impact. For many of these companies, it is their survival that depends on it.
In times of crisis, Quebeckers have always shown solidarity and mutual aid. Once again, it's time to come together and buy from Quebec. More than ever, buying local is vital.
Being at the heart of local and regional economic development and a key player in supporting our entrepreneurs and SMEs, the network of chambers of commerce therefore invites you to buy blue and share your favorites here!In these times of isolation, it is essential for me to stay connected with my community. To keep myself informed, I contribute to my local media.
